Will Not Negotiate
As many of you may know, the most recent victim to televised terrorist executions was Kim Sun-il, who met his unjust demise today despite pleading desperately on camera to the public and to his home country.
This young Korean was following his dreams of becoming a missionary in Iraq when he was abducted by a militant group. Trying to use this young man as a bargaining chip, the militant group gave South Korean an ultimatum - Either cease the deployment of Korean troops or be responsible for the death of a fellow Korean. Well, we all know how this sad tale ended.
President Bush declared that there would be no negotiations with terrorists and that "the free world cannot be intimidated by the brutal actions of these barbaric people." And while I agree that one can't sensibly argue or reason with terrorists, I'm not sure about how America or the world would react if someone with more influence and importance were to be held hostage and given the same conditions these innocent abductees received.
What would happen if a big enough fish was caught and the militant group threatened to suffocate the life from it... To the ones lost from war or ill-fate, may you finally rest in peace.
