Above Average Joe

I'm not sure if any of my readers watch Average Joe 2, but the season finale aired last night. So for those who don't know, Average Joe is a reality-tv program that brings in a bunch of average looking males into a dating scene. All these beta gorillas then proceed to compete with one another in hopes of winning the heart of one really attractive woman. Last season, they had a twist by bringing in "the hunks." Three good looking males were unexpectedly brought in and were added to the Average Joe Royal Rumble. This season, they had the same twist. Instead of 3 "hunks" however, they brought in 8 guys. Talk about an Alpha-raping-beta session.

Anyway, the "I'm-down-to-earth" Larissa ended up eliminating guys weekly until one average joe (Brian) and one good looking joe (Gil) remained. She ends up picking, dum dum dum... the good looking joe. Even though she saw how much Brian cared for her and she even cried when she heard him profess his love to her, she ultimately chose Gil. It was funny how she analyzed the whole situation... From "Any girl wants something that looks good to be around her arms" to "Gil was hesitant to express his true feelings and that's something that intrigues me," it was a classic case of the "what I can't clearly see or completely understand makes me that much more interested" phenomenon at play. Obviously people enjoy things that are hard to get because intrinsic worth is naturally attached to whatever it is you are chasing, but the key is to get over and wade past that confusing emotional zone.

When Larissa told Gil what her decision was, she told him she rationalized that since he's hesitant about certain topics, that shows that he's real. What da feeeezy? How far did her mind have to wander to come up with that one? So silly. Anything could be construed as keeping it real in this world. Even guys who play mind games with girls in order to pet the marsupials down under can be seen as keeping it real because they are being real with themselves. Then Larissa stated "Because you keep some things to yourself, I really don't know how you feel. I have to trust my instincts. And my instincts tell me to go with you." Okay, which instincts is she talking about? There's emotional intuition inside us all that allows us to judge genuine vibes felt with others, but there's also the animalistic tap-that-ass-and-grab-that-monkey predisposition we possess as well. In this case, I think Larissa's other lips were doing the talking.

Anyway, I DO agree with Larissa's feelings towards Brian. Although she was flattered and touched by his heartfelt sentiments, she just couldn't reciprocate the feelings he had for her. How many times have we all gone through this one before? Wanting so bad to complement another's love but ultimately admitting to ourselves we can't. It's better to be honest from the get go than to try to make something work out. Love shouldn't be forced... But then again, going on a reality tv program to find love isn't the most natural way to approach love either. =P

Average Joe should really be called something else... Maybe "Screw the Average Joe Some More" or "The Average Joe Who Thought He Had A Chance" would be more appropriate titles. During both seasons, the women leaves the average joe for the better looking joe. Hey, two good looking people together! What a nice looking couple. Did they really need their own television program for this?

3 days of vacationing in Cabo and no doubt planting the seeds of love everywhere, Larissa dropped "a bomb" as NBC claimed in their commercials. She had a secret to profess. What was this enigmatic revelation? Larissa's ex-boyfriend was Fabio. And then? That's it. Oh... =I After hearing this, Gil reacted like a 5-year old boy who discovered eating Fluffy's feces wasn't the same as mom's homemade brownies. He was totally disgusted with Larissa. He defended his reaction by saying "Any guy can relate with me. If you put yourself in my shoes, you can understand where I'm coming from." And with a flick of a light, Gil's love and fondness for Larissa turned off and he left her. Good lo. How stupid can a guy be? Who cares if Larissa went out with Fabio? Big freaking deal. But I guess that's what Larissa gets for following her instincts. I was watching the program with Linda when she said "This whole program is a big set up. It can't be real." I think I have to agree with her... "I can't believe it's not Butter, I mean bullS*it." If it IS real, NBC has an uncanny way of finding the keepers of society.

Now last season, the average Joe who lost in the end was Adam. It was revealed during the finale that he was a millionaire. This guy actually had some pretty slick moves too. He co-owned this restaurant/bar and when the waiter brought out the drink list, all the drinks listed were named after the experiences Adam and Melana (the girl) shared with each other during their dates! Wipe that pimp juice off the floor man! =D But in the end, he too, got cut for a guy who was better looking, albeit still a student. Oh, the sad irony of it all. Now, Adam is going to have his own reality show with Average Joe. It's called "Average Joe 3: Adam Returns." Apparently, there were lots of female viewers who grew fond of Adam and thought he deserved a chance with someone better, like themselves... And no, I am 100% sure him being a millionaire has no effect whatsoever on these women's feelings for him. haha. I'm not sure what to expect in the third season. It's gonna be a Who Wants to Marry a Millionaire / Average Joe collaborative spinoff. Given a chance, I wonder if Adam will get bitten by the Average Joe Bug and turn into a superficial individual.

Today's eye candy is Ms. Sarah Jane. She claims to be the most downloaded woman on the Net, but I'm not sure. Everyone and their grandmas seem to be boasting this feat these days. All I do know for certain is that my eyes are happy. Enjoy.
